Ray Shay knows neighborhoods like only a police lieutenant can. From North County to South Bay, he’s seen it all. Ray’s time in the San Diego Police Department makes him an uncommon ally in buying and selling real estate. He knows the best areas for families to settle, and the perfect neighborhoods for single or retired clients to call home.
During his time in the SDPD, Ray primarily served in challenging communities. While serving as commanding officer of SWAT and the air unit, Ray had opportunities to negotiate with all types of people in every imaginable situation. He now uses his negotiation skills to help his clients buy and sell homes, all over San Diego.
The son of a Military Officer, Ray grew up in Albuquerque, NM, as one of seven. He has called San Diego his home for 35 years. His life centers around his wife Theresa and their three sons.
Theresa Shay moved to San Diego from Parsippany, NJ, in 1994, to earn a Kinesiology degree from San Diego State University. After graduating, she decided to call Southern California her home.
Theresa’s career in real estate began in 2003. Her journey has moved forward steadily from cold-calling to co-ownership of one of San Diego’s premiere firms.
Inspired by Brian Buffini, Theresa built a balance-centered business model she could follow to take care of her family, herself, her business and her finances. “Ray and I wanted to make sure we raised our three boys the right way, and to be there for them whenever they needed us. Doing business the way we do now provides that opportunity.”
Theresa is the driving force behind the annual Thank You Run for ALS, and is a founder of the 4S Ranch-Del Sur Community Foundation. (Please see our “Charitable Causes” page for more information.)
Theresa’s and Ray’s generosity of spirit guides this family-centered business. As a result, referrals from happy customers are the largest part of Shay Realtors’ success.
